Fabric Mart Challenge

Have you been following the Fabric Mart Challenge? If not, you need to go here and check it out. Each week, the contestants are given a challenge to execute and then they are judged on number of votes received as well as the criteria of the challenge. The last challenge was a Little Black Dress challenge. This is the piece that Shams of http://communingwithfabric.blogspot.com/ created. I REALLY thought she would win as I felt that she truly knocked it out of the park. It's black and edgy and styled perfectly. You can see her post on the project here. Well, she didn't win and I was ticked. Not that the others didn't do a great job, but I felt that Shams truly thought outside the box.
This week's challenge is a vintage challenge. Here's the pattern that she chose for the challenge.
And here's her creation. Again, the dress is edgy and it ain't your Mama's prim and proper 1950's dress!!!
I think she did a wonderful job. You can read her post about the creation of this dress here.
So, let's all go over to the Fabric Mart blog and vote our little hearts out. In the words of our first Mayor Daley, "if you can't help out your own, who can you help?" Let's help Shams move on to the next challenge and win this thing!!! You can find the voting site here, http://blog.fabricmartfabrics.com/2013/10/fifth-challenge-timeless-classic.html. Now go...VOTE...and vote often ;)

  1. Like you, I thought she would walk away with it. I have been baffled at the winners who have been chosen - doesn't make sense.

    1. I agree. So I thought we could just blow them away with tons of votes. Let the people speak!!!!

  2. Thanks, Rhonda, for your support! The popular vote is only a part of the judging. I don't mind that, as they don't want it to merely be a popularity contest, but it would be nice if they were more upfront about who the judges are and how the voting actually works. On the Project Runway show, you get to hear what the judges think, and that helps to understand who won (or lost) and why.

    1. I know that the voting is only a part, but maybe we can show them what we think with our votes :) All we can do is try.
From my experience with the Passion For Fashion contest, the judges comments aren't that helpful. I've had a few that just didn't make sense. A little like the winner just doesn't make sense. Oh well, again we can only try.

  3. I'm with you Martha and Rhonda. To me Shams is an inspiration because she is such a skilled sewista and so stylish. I've been surprised at the winners and have wondered if the style that I admire and emulate is too odd or too West Coast for the majority of Fabric Mart followers. I can't figure it out, especially the Stud Dress!!!

  4. I thought Shams would win also! It was the best, IMO. Love her dress this round also!

  5. I have been voting for Shams all along. She truly gets the challenge and interprets it to a T.
Can't wait to see the next interpration.

  6. I'm a Shams fan too but what first upset me was that the first jacket (made from mesh bags, no less!) by Audrey of Sew Tawdry was truly the most innovative and kicky of that week's challenge and I cannot believe it did not win then either! That was amazing.
