In Loving Memory

We said goodbye to Miss Little Bit yesterday morning. Things took a turn for the worse on Monday night, and by Tuesday morning, we knew, it was time.

A friend had told me about a veterinarian service called Lap of Love who would come to our home. I just couldn't bear the thought of having her last moments filled with any fear. There was no fear, just peace. The vet, Dr. Christina, was so loving and kind. For such a difficult situation, it could not have been handled better. I was able to be with her, and I felt her take her last breath. Loved and protected to the very end.

One of my favorite pictures. I love the look of disgust. She didn't mind the coat, but she hated those boots. I had just been telling her how cute she looked and she flashed this look at me.

Happy times. Hiking, one of our favorite things to do. This was taken on Thanksgiving, 2014. We hiked a trail in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado that morning.

I'm a weepy mess. But, I know my tears are there because she was so loved. If only every person, and every pet could be loved as much as Little Bit, what a wonderful world it would be.

I wanted to share the news, as so many of you have sent such kind words our way. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

As for now, yes, I'm hurting, my heart is broken. But in time, I think that the memories of Miss Little Bit will be so sweet. I have cherished each and every moment I have had with her. She brought so much joy and happiness into my life.

  9. Rhonda, I'm crying with you. I am so sorry. Yesterday, during my daily Bible study, I had an urge to pray for you and Little Bit. I had no idea why. But now I know. You and your husband will be in my prayers.

    1. Oh Ginger, you don't know how much this means to me. On Saturday night I prayed a prayer and told God that I was placing her in his hands. I had hoped that she would last another week, but when all began to go wrong Monday night, I knew it was time. Your message is like a message directly from God. He was there, he is here. Thank you, and thank you for your prayers.

  11. My eyes are filled with tears as I write this message, how special for you and Miss Little Bit that her last moments were spent in your arms and in the comfort of her loving home. My heart hurts for you, I'm so sorry for your loss of a loving companion and furry best friend. God bless you and your husband during this difficult time. JL

  12. Rhonda, it has taken me 4 tries to get thru this as I feel your pain of missing a furry little/big one. Miss Lil Bit knew she was LOVED/PROTECTED/CARED FOR LIKE A QUEEN and that is all that mattered. It gets a little easier with time, but they are still missed. Prayers for you and your family.

  13. I'm weepy reading. I understand your pain - been there, done that - but they're out of pain now and in a better world. While you may get another - you'll never forget, or quite get over this one. Time heals.

  17. Rhonda, Your own words say it all: "If only every person, and every pet could be loved as much as Little Bit, what a wonderful world it would be." You make the world a better place wth your love--and Little Bit was cherished to the end. I'm so sorry for your loss.

  18. Its so hard to lose a fur companion ( I call her furkids but some get upset at that so now its companion). I understand how you feel and weep all you want. They are with us such a short time in our lives and yet leave such a broken heart when they die due to their devotion, love and caring. They only want to be the center of your world and be there for you at all times.

Yep I weep with you and hope your heart can heal with the passage of time and love. Bless you for being her companion while she was alive.

  33. So very sorry that Little Bit has finished her time on earth :-( I'm so glad that was able to be in her home with you safe and secure.
Now as she runs pain free forever, exploring her new home and all the wonderous new smells I hope that in your grief you can find comfort in the gentleness of her passing from this life to the next.
Remember to be gentle with yourself in the coming days, you are so much in my thoughts.

  34. So sorry for your loss. How wonderful that you had the option of having the vet come to your home. Wish that had been an option for us. Take comfort in knowing you gave her 16 years filled with love & she did the same for you. Janet

  43. Dear Rhonda, Am praying that our care for you is spanning the universe so that your grief may be halved--and that God is holding you in the hollow of his hand...our little Tilly (who looks just like Toto) is very old now too (her white and gray look just like your Little Bit), and I'm cherishing each day we still have her, knowing that the grief you are in now will come to us soon. Thank you for posting and reminding us to not take our blessed furry souls for granted. Sending you a massive hug!!!

    1. I have felt every message that has been sent my way. So many have reached out from all over the world. I am truly blessed. A friend suggested that I complie pictures and make a photo book. I sat down yesterday and pulled up a number of pictures. Of course I cried, but I also laughed, so very healing. Yes, cherish each and every day. Their little lives are just far too short. Be sure to give Tilly a kiss from me :)

    2. I'm so glad to hear that. Love is the only thing that sees us through...straight from God...through us...to one another. I have this beautiful CD titled "The Akathist of Thanksgiving," and one section of it that is sung says, "I am so small and inconsequential, but the Lord is with me. His loving hand is everywhere protecting me: Glory to You: for Your constant care of me...for the providential encounters with people...for the love of relatives, the devotion of friends. Glory to You for the gentleness of animals who serve me...for the luminous moments of my life...for the bright joys of my heart...for the happiness of living..." I love that the animals are included directly in the service. C.S. Lewis said that when we enter into immortality, we'll feel beneath our hands the familiar touch of the faithful companions who walked beside us through our earthly lives. I believe that. I still will be praying you through the gentle days for now...

  44. Dear Rhonda, So very sorry about Little Bit. How wonderful that that precious animal had such a caring human to love her. Animals bring us so much joy. I can sometimes even smell the scent of one of our long departed friends. Their memories stay forever. So very thankful to have had them in my life - so hard to let go!

  45. Dear Rhonda, I am very deeply and truly sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what I would do without Kessi and the thought of how you must feel is breaking my heart. Losing a pet is more than losing a friend, it's losing a family member and just a horrible thing to go though. Our furry babies are with us for such a short time but they leave a giant mark on our lives and hearts. Know that Little Bit is now in a far better place over the rainbow.

    1. Thank you :) It was a week ago today, and my heart is still so heavy. Our home is so quiet, and feels so empty. But, one thing I have learned is that we are given grace enough to get through the day, and then tomorrow, there will be more.
