Wearing My Tablecloth Skirt and a Felt Necklace

A while back, I decided to give Sham's tablecloth skirt a try. I had a piece of vintage wool flannel that I thought would work quite well, and it did! You can see the post here, http://rhondabuss.blogspot.com/2013/11/fabulous-free-pattern-friday.html
Two problems, all on me. First of all I didn't do my math correctly and the waist ended up a little too large. I was able to fix the problem by adding a box pleat to the front of the skirt. The second mistake I made happened because I just didn't pay attention. Look at the center front. If I had just paid attention, I would have matched the plaid. Oh well, throw a belt over it :)
When I initially posted the skirt, I had not hemmed it. Well, it is now hemmed and I love wearing the skirt!!!
The top is my basic t-shirt pattern. I used a wool knit for the top. The fabric has all these little see through areas and the wool was just a little itchy too, so I decided to line it with a poly knit fabric. It has a gray back ground with a black and red pattern running through out.
The necklace that I'm wearing is from this Fabulous Free Pattern Friday post, http://rhondabuss.blogspot.com/2011/11/fabulous-free-pattern-friday_25.html . The necklace is fun and easy to make.
After wearing for a bit, I've decided to take it apart and change it a little. From the point where my finger is to the fastener, I want to take out the felt strips and just have the round velvet beads to the end. It will lay a little nicer around the neck. In the past I've worn the necklace over a turtleneck and I haven't noticed the felt strips wanting to turn up, but on a t-shirt neckline it does.
If you haven't made a tablecloth skirt yet, give it a try. They are easy to make and fun to wear. You can see an entire gallery of the skirts here, http://www.communingwithfabric.blogspot.com/p/gallery-for-garment-formerly-known-as.html

  1. Great look. You look warm in all that Illinois snow!

    1. The picture was taken in Colorado. It snowed over 2 feet in 36 hours. Thankfully this isn't Chicago.

  2. You are perfectly attired for a photo-shoot in the snow! Very elegant too and I love the idea of a tablecloth skirt. I found some possibly-wool blend fabric at an op shop the other day that could be perfect for this, if there's enough of it.

PS I love the little red link in the necklace and the peep through colour on the top. I had never thought of lining a long sleeve T. Great idea for winter.

  3. Absolutely adorable! I've been interested in making one, but I'll likely wait until I'm on the US mainland again in wintertime. Although the skirt would be cute in an adorable cotton... Hmmm. *wink*

    Hugs and happy highways,

  4. That looks perfect for the conditions Rhonda. A wonderful outfit - well done! (You don't even look cold!)

    1. It really wasn't all that cold, maybe near 30. But I ran out, took the picture and ran back inside!
