Fun With Patterns and a New Fabric

This weekend Joann's had a sale on Vogue patterns. When I arrived at the store, I was terribly disappointed as there was only one pattern catalog and it was an old one. I was hoping to pick up a couple of the new spring patterns that are out. Call me crazy, but I went through the entire cabinet hoping to find them, but there wasn't one new pattern to be had. I did end up finding a few that I have wanted and for whatever reason have not picked up on prior trips.

Great skirt on this vintage pattern. Vogue 1084.
This dress is so simple, but I think I'm going to rip it up and add to it. I just like the ruffles. Anna Sui Vogue 1104.
Such an interesting top.Chado Ralph Rucci, Vogue 1115.
It's difficult to see the jacket in this photo, but it's layered. Will make a nice starting point for a little different design. Guy Laroche, Vogue 1143.
I'm not sure about this Donna Karan pattern, but for $3.99, it's worth a try. Vogue 1159.
One of our Haute Couture members made this top. She wasn't very happy with the side extensions, but I love them. I plan on cutting this top tomorrow. Lynn Mizono, Vogue 1274.
While I was at the store I picked up the current issue of Vogue Pattern Magazine. I don't remember the last time I bought one of these magazines. It has changed, for sure, but I was pleasantly surprised. There's a wonderful article about cork fabric. I know, I was surprised too! As it turns out, cork is very eco friendly. A tree in its prime can produce 440 pounds of cork every nine to ten years until the tree is approximately 200 years old. Incredible.

The cork fabric comes in a wide array of colors. For a limited time you can purchase a 20" x 54" piece for $39.00, the none discounted price is $79.00. I think it would be a lot of fun to give it a try. If you're interested in taking a look, the link is here. The code for the discount is BMV120.
Hope you've had a great start to your week!
By the way, I did finish the PJs in Paris. I'll show them to you tomorrow and make an announcement about the giveaway.
One last thing that I just had to share. A friend sent the most wonderful email with some really funny jokes, here's one that I think will make you laugh. I sure did. Enjoy!
A wife invited some people to dinner. At the table, she turned to their six-year-old daughter and said, 'Would you like to say the blessing?' 'I wouldn't know what to say,' the girl replied. 'Just say what you hear Mommy say,' the wife answered. The daughter bowed her head and said, 'Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?'

  1. I have the Laroche jacket (love the lines) and the Mizono patterns. Vogue Pattern magazine has definitely been pretty good for some time now. I subscribed through the BMV site (which has a slight discount).

I have yet to read it, though. :) The cork article does sound interesting!

  2. I loved the version of that Mizono top (in the striped fabric) that N made--it's a pattern I'd like to make up in silk duppioni.

I love the joke! And here's another true 'grace story.' When we go see Norm's mother she frequently asks one of us to say the blessing. Being heathens, we don't do this at home. It was Norm's turn--he got through 'Dear God'--then listed things for which we are grateful--but rather than ending with 'Amen' he said 'Well, goodbye.' Even his mother thought it was funny (if a bit revealing about our habits).
