A Great Jacket Pattern, Vogue 8483

So often, I begin a project and think that it will take a certain amount of time. Then, I get into the project and it takes almost twice the time I thought it would take! That was my day yesterday. I had a household project that I really wanted to accomplish. I knew it wouldn't be an hour project, but thought 3 or 4 hours max. I began a little after 8, and finished up around 3. Now, I did take a break, but, it still took almost twice the amount of time that I thought it would take. The good news is that I stuck with it, and I am so very proud of what I accomplished. I didn't get my blog post done, but all in all, a good day :)

Last week I posted a jacket that I had made quite some time ago, a little plaid jacket that I absolutely love. For the life of me, I couldn't remember what pattern I used. Kelly was so kind to write in and share the pattern number with me, so I thought I would pass it along. 

The above jacket is Vogue 8483. When I saw the pattern it immediately spurred my memory. I absolutely love the pattern. The jacket on the left has a Claude Montana feel to it. The collar is just so pretty! And, I love it in the relaxed version as well. 

I used a pre-quilted fabric, so no lining. But, the time saved in not lining the jacket was taken up with all the bound seams. In the end, so worth it! Taking the jacket off and having it catch someone's eye, just the best compliment. You know, silent compliments are good too! :)

I love playing with patterns, so the little plaid pumps were a fun shoe to pair with the jacket. 

Kelly said that it took her a while to find the pattern in her size, but she has it now! I love when perseverance pays off :) I did find a couple on Ebay. You can find them HERE. There wasn't anything available on Etsy. But, if you like the pattern, just put it in an alert so that when new patterns come up, you'll know. I do that quite often. 

I am super excited as I found the plaid below at Cali Fabrics. I'm making a pair of leggings and a turtleneck that I can pair with this jacket. I'll pair it with a solid skirt, but still, you'll see me coming ;)

It always seems that the projects that take longer than I had thought are ultimately the projects that I am the most proud of. Strange how that happens. Even the quilted jacket in this post, I had thought, "oh this will be a snap." Although it took longer than expected, it was all worth it in the end.

Monday Morning Inspiration/Quilted Inspiration

Well, I'm stumped! The 2016 Thread's Challenge in conjunction with the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals is "The Quilted Garment." For some reason, the competition interested me, so I decided to enter the challenge. I have yet to be inspired :(
Here's the criteria of the competition,

“Quilting” is defined here as two or more textile layers joined by hand- or machine-stitching, and you must do the quilting yourself. Choose any fabrics that inspire you. Quilting cotton is not required, nor is traditional quilt batting. The garments don’t have to be pieced. The quilting itself should be the star. The stitching must meaningfully contribute to the structure, silhouette, and/or embellishment of the garment. 

Here's a little of what I've found in my searching for inspiration. The above coat is from the 2015 couture collection by Schiaparelli. I have no idea is the fabric is hand quilted, but I know I will not be doing anything similar to this.
I do like the use of textiles in the coat below. 

This is simple and yet a lot of work. I think it may be a Kantha quilt.

This coat is from Fendi and except for the pocket, I think it's lovely, but not very inspiring.

This coat is from Valentino and I think it is absolutely amazing. 

This piece I did find interesting. I love the mix of textiles.

In this close up picture, you can see how the red fabric is stitched so that it is actually raised off the bed of the jacket. 

Another piece from Valentino. Not so sure about the one shoulder aspect,but I do love the piecing. Dramatic and yet subtle.

This is not a quilted piece, but I do like the stitching idea. Quilting a piece with beads on a solid ground.

Here's a piece that is quilted and then the faces are stitched over the quilting.

I included this coat as I think it is a great use of color. It's from Bjork. Not quite sure why the yo-yos weren't taken into the armpit.

So here's how I'm feeling. The picture below makes me think of being tied into a straight jacket! I'm simply stuck.

But then, I could just grab an old quilt and make a dress!!!! This won't happen :)

So today, I'm asking for some help, maybe a little direction. The competition is based more on the actual quilting of the fabric rather than the piecing. Is there anything that inspires you? I'm up for any inspiration that will come my way.

The Quilted Jacket Pattern

A number of you asked about the pattern that I used for the quilted jacket that I wore yesterday. It's Vogue 8483 and I did find a few listings in case you are interested. Cute pattern :) Now that I'm looking at it again, I just might have to pull it out again!!

Me Made Mondays

I am doing my best to just get right back to business. To be honest, I'm still reeling  a bit from the shock I received a week and a half ago. But, I'm doing my best to focus on the fact that all is good for now and maybe it always will be. Actually, that's all we can hope for on any given day.
So Me Made Monday...I actually wore this outfit today. The shawl that I'm wearing is one that I posted for Fabulous Free Pattern Friday 3 years ago. Wow, where does the time go??? You can get the instructions for the shawl here.

 The jacket is a double faced quilted fabric. 

 The jacket is an old Vogue pattern. Easy to make. If I can find the pattern, I'll post the number.

I finished off the interior seams with a red binding. Pretty on and pretty off :)
