A Suit and a Story/A Story of Tears and Triumph

I am so far behind!!! Crazy me, I managed to slice my finger open on Monday evening while chopping vegetables. Maybe the vegetarian thing isn't working for me ;) Just wasn't paying attention, moved my finger in front of the knife, down the knife went, and a great big cut for me. I was so aggravated with myself. One of those things you just can't believe that you did. The bleeding has finally stopped, so I am back in business :)

If you are following the Papercut Patterns Soma Swimsuit sew along that I am doing for Sew News, this week's post is up. And even if you aren't following the sew along, pop over as this week's post includes the story behind putting the suit together. It was a Tim Gunn, "make it work" moment for sure. You can find the post HERE

Has a sewing endeavor ever brought you to tears? Share your story in the comment section. I would love to hear what happened and if there was a solution.

  1. I pray you are better now. Maybe one of those vegetable choppers will prevent further harm to your precious hands. We need to continue seeing those Beautiful outfits you sew! God bless you!

  2. Sweet :) My finger is healing now. Initially couldn't get it to stop bleeding. Just a stupid thing, like most accidents.

  3. Oh, I sincerely pray that your finger is healing nicely. I don't know that this particular sewing project brought me to tears, but it came close, and now, today, 43 years later, it just makes me laugh and everyone else laugh when I tell them about it.
I was dating my now husband, and his birthday was approaching soon. I decided to "show off" my sewing skills and make him a pair of long pants as a gift, so I took a day off work to sew them. When he found out I was home for the day he kept showing up to see me, periodically all day long. Every time his car drove in the driveway I immediately hid the sewing project in the closet only to bring it out as soon as he left.
By 7:00 that evening I had the pants completed and went to do a final press. And much to my surprise and chagrin I had the front pockets finished perfectly; however, they were hanging on the outside of the pants!!!

    1. Now that takes some talent! In fact, I don't
Know how you did that ;) Thanks for sharing the story. Loved it.

    1. It was a learning experience. The best part about it all was that I learned something that I could in turn pass along :)

  6. Hope you finger is healing well.

Let's see I was serging a seam on my orange linen shirtmaker dress and yes you know what happened I managed to catch the fabric in the blade, thankfully realising it as soon as it happened but still a hole in my shirtmaker dress. The solution was to add 2 half circles to each side of the dress so that it covered the hole (which I had mended) and made a feature out of it.

  7. Ouch, ouch, ouch. Hope you are healing nicely by now. Let's see. 44 years ago I was sewing a lightweight poly (of course early 70's and it was the "new silk) into a long evening dress for New Years with my then boyfriend. Looked like *&%$ when I put it on. Cried, dried my tears, bought a black and white knit, new pattern and made a new dress the next day. Much better marriage of fabric and pattern so it looked better....and I was maybe 21 so I looked great no matter what I was wearing:-) No, the boyfriend didn't work out at all which was fine by me...just a steppingstone to my future and I wish him nothing but good things, wherever he is.

  8. I am always amazed at what a small world it is. I have never heard of Papercut patterns until Margy featured their turtleneck on her blog last week. And then while catching up on your blog, I find you and Sew News had a sew-along using their Soma Swimsuit pattern. Why is it a small world - because I had just received an invitation to visit the Papercut Pattern's workshop when I visit their hometown of Nelson on the South Island of beautiful New Zealand. Though I promised myself 'no fabric shopping' - as my suitcase just isn't big enough - I am sure I can fit in a few patterns!
