This is a suit that can be made out of basically, scraps of fabric. Next week I'll share the story behind putting this suit together. It was a true "make it work" situation. Funny now, not so funny at the time. But I think that what I went through to put the suit together will give you lots of ideas and you'll see that fabric and materials can literally be found ANYWHERE!!!
In the picture grouping below, I included a picture of the bra cups that I added to the suit. Most of us enjoy a little extra support. This is not included in the instructions for the suit, but I think the cups are a welcome addition. Super easy to do and I'll be sure to walk you step by step through the process.
The pattern offers lots of options, of course, the full suit that you see above. There's a bikini version that you see below. Although the top is basically a shortened version of the one piece suit, a separate pattern is included.
You can also use the bottom pattern from the one piece version and make a suit with a little more coverage than the bikini. Another option is offered for the top as well. So you can really mix and match the pattern and come up with lots of options.
Below are a few ideas that I pulled off of the Papercut site. Note that the one piece suit is trimmed in fold-over elastic. The one piece below is trimmed in a basic white fold-over and I think that it accents the suit beautifully.
If you would like to venture into the wonderful world of making swimsuits, and would like a chance to win a pattern, just leave a message on this post. I will announce the winner next Monday, June 6, 2016. The pattern that you receive will be a PDF version.
Just a little warning note, once you make your first swimsuit, you'll be making more!!!
Good Luck!
Rhonda
Rhonda, I would love to win a PaperCut swimsuit pattern! BTW, your tie-dye bias cut dress by Fashions in Harmony is my favorite of your makes to date. Thank you for sewing techniques, recipes, and, most of all, inspiration!!
ReplyDeleteHello! I'd like to win it!
ReplyDeleteIs love to win the Soma!
ReplyDeleteI'd love a chance to win this pattern, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have seen the extra straps in bra designs and they really did not resonate with me but I really like the idea in a swim suit! You can bare your back and still have security and support. Very nice, for the first time I am tempted. Thank you, Sue in Sequim
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this pattern - I'm ready to sew my own suit! So many great creations from other sewers, it's hard not to want to join in. I'm also interested in learning how to add cups, these are a necessity in my life with bathing suits.
ReplyDeletePick me, pick me! I love sewing swimsuits. That is a great pattern.
ReplyDeleteintriguing! count me entered :)
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting this pattern since the day it came out! I'll need to put cups into mine also, glad to see I'm not the only one :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a really nice, and different pattern, and I like it. I've made quite a few swim suits before, and you're right, once you've made one, you'll make more.
ReplyDeleteEnter me please, I've already got fabric and my daughter will model the results!
ReplyDeleteHi Rhonda.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try this pattern! Looking forward to the sew along as I have never made a swimsuit before. Interested in seeing how you install the bra cups as well. I want to try it in some knit dresses I'm planning on making this summer. I've seen it in some dresses at REI. They're sewn into a mesh bra.
This would be great to have with the sew along and the cups instruction added. Please enter me in to the contest.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, please enter me! I've never made a swimsuit and would love to learn!
ReplyDeleteI'm interested and intimidated by swimwear. Could use some motivation in the form of a giveaway win!
ReplyDeleteWent for the first swim of the season and realized that ALL of my shots need replacing! I would love to win a swim suit pattern.
ReplyDelete😍😍😍😍 yes please!
ReplyDeleteMaking a swimsuit would likely be less painful than trying them on in stores... :) I'd try this.
ReplyDeleteMany years go I made a swimsuit. It was 2 piece. No one in my generation wore a 2-piece. I'd seen one on a trip to the Bahamas with my mother. I had no pattern. I was 15. It took me almost all summer to get the nerve to wear it as a lifeguard, but once I did, I wore it out. I never made another one and would really love to make one from a real pattern. I live on a lake and sail and swim All summer. I've outgrown 2-piece suits,, I'm not too old for anything. But this suit would be perfect for my life style.
ReplyDeletePlease count me in as well. I have tried a swimsuit once, while the sewing was fine, the pattern was graded up from a vintage and I think I can blame my problems on my lack of grading skills...But I would love to give sewing a swimsuit another go!
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm not much of a swimmer, but we are moving nearer the coast in a few months time so a swimsuit does seem essential. Having never sewn one before I'll be joining in, so yes please from me too.
ReplyDeleteOH yes, count me in as well. Thanks Rhonda.
ReplyDeleteOoh count me in! Anything to avoid trying on swimsuits at a store.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win a copy of this pattern - I used to make my own swimsuits when I was at university, maybe it's time to start again?
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your instructions for the bra cups. Don't include me in the pattern contest. Your instructions are worth a whole lot more to me. Cheers Rhonda!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win a copy of this pattern. It's very different from most other swimsuit patterns, and I really like the strappy back option for the bikini!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have the pattern - and TTHANK YOU for the cup instruction. I'm past the age of suits without support :)
ReplyDeleteI've never made a swimsuit, but I would love a chance to try :) Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteHi Rhonda,
ReplyDeleteI would so love to try this as a challenge..............to make swimwear for my daughter would be fabulous. She is rather petite and it would be fabulous to make such a pretty line of swimwear for her that she could have made to especially fit her.

Good luck to everyone.
