Some of you may have noticed that I have not been doing a whole of sewing the last week or so. I have a project that I must complete(unsewing related)by Monday morning. The good news is that I'm almost there, YEA!!! My knees are tired, and my hands ache, but in the end, it will all be worth it. So no Fabulous Free Pattern Friday or Sleeves On Saturday this week. They will both resume next week. In fact I'm really excited about the sleeve I'll be doing next week. It actually came to me in a dream. Hmmmm, I guess you know you're a little strange when you dream about sleeves :)
A fun little thing happened yesterday. I thought that the people at Butterick might like to see the dress I made using their shirt pattern Butterick 5678, so I sent them an email with pictures and a link to my blog.

There was a rather negative comment made about the dress. I really didn't take it all that hard(I think the ghosts are truly taking their leave :), Cracking The Shell!!!). We all have an opinion, it's just a shame that some feel they have the right to voice it in such a negative way. Their problem, not mine :)

Your dress is stunning!! It always shocks me when I come across a person who apparently wasn't taught "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

No; that's why we sew, so that we can make what *we* want, in the fabric and style and color that *we* want. *Poof* to the criticizers (whatever *poof* means, just made that up LOL)! Alexandra is another who inspires me. One of many. You, dear Rhonda, are not only an inspiration but a role model. XOXO and {{hugs}}.

So sweet Sandra. I say "poof" too!!!! I learned a long time ago to be open minded. It's only when our minds are open that new ideas can enter and wonderful opportunities make their way to us. Actually, I thought that the comment that was made about me having no modesty was quite hilarious!! Doesn't know me in the least.
ReplyDeleteHa, I had to go look at the comment...as you do :) You know it is the way we say things that can be so rude. I kinda agree it does look your bra is showing, but that is the fun thing. It is cheeky, yet classy and oh so clever. I really love this dress. Very modest but still cheeky. Perfect.

I love your dress! The person who makes a negative comment about someone else's work shows complete ignorance. And of course ... I am literally drooling over my keyboard while I admire that wonderful embroidered fabric ... Oh, Lady, you are very lucky!

Unfortunately, although the internet is wonderful and it's great to meet people like yourself, it does have a dark side, in that people can hide behind the anonymity of the screen and say nasty things. Sherry Turkel wrote about this phenonena years ago (she's a social psychologist at MIT). Well done for not allowing the projection to hit home.
ReplyDeleteIt truly is a very interesting phenomenon. I want to find the piece you mentioned as I think it would be a very interesting read. I think that it might have something to do with old hurts and this is a way to lash out and give the person a feeling of some power. I really try to practice what Alexandra said, "bless and release." we all have baggage that can manifest itself in many ways.

ReplyDeleteRhonda. I think you are truely talented. Are you a self taught designer or did you study designing and pattern drafting? I have done a pattern drafting course but one has to really practice the designing. Making the basic patterns is the easiest part but I have to think hard about the designing. I guess that comes with experience.

My mother had a wonderful outlook on negative criticism. "Don't criticize anyone or anything they do until or unless you have never done anything to warrant criticism from someone else." Who in this world is so perfect not to warrant criticism at some point? The dress is fabulous. And the embroidered piece spectacular.

ReplyDeleteI love your gown; it's absolutely inspirational! And the piece with the embroidered cranes is deliriously delightful. Even the back of the fabric is gorgeous. I was taught that the back of an embroidery should be just as neat and pretty as the front, and yours comes very close! Compose your vision and enjoy!

ReplyDeleteI am planning to drape the piece so that I don't cut away any of the fabric and especially the birds!! I had no idea about the potential of the piece being lucky. I will count the birds and see if there are 100. I hope, I hope!!! Thanks so much for letting me know. I'll let my friend who gave the piece to me know as well.
