Summer Breeze Sew Along Week 4

The 4th installment for the Hot Patterns Summer Breeze Sew Along is up on The Sew News blog and you can find it here. This week I talk about finishing the neckline and the armholes with a bias binding.
If you look closely at the dress, you'll see that the shoulders are somewhat extended.
And here you can see how the shoulder falls over the top of my arm.
For this dress, I want a clean finish with my armhole sitting right at my shoulder, so an adjustment to the armhole is necessary. This dress will be sleeveless, but I will be adding a sleeve to a top that I am also doing for the sew along. If you would like to add a sleeve, the adjustment will be necessary. So check out the blog post to see what I have done.
Here's this week's video just in case you would like to take a look. It's very short, less than 2 minutes long.

I have a few things up my sleeve for next week's post. I am adding a trim to the neckline and armholes of my dress and I'll also have a few alteration tips as well.
As soon as the sleeve post is up, I'll let you know!

  1. Thank you so much for these videos. You and my ipad were a big help while constructing my muslin. Now that's I've made the top it seems easy. But just reading those directions it was very confusing. I've got some changes to make to the pattern (more room in the hips). I'm not sure I'll finish before the sew along is over. I'm in the middle of a quilt top and soon to be curtains.

    1. I'm so happy to hear that my tutorials were a help. I felt so dense when I first got the pattern and couldn't figure out the instructions. Like I said, I read the instructions and put them down a number of times before I finally got it.
I think the hips on this pattern are a bit skimpy, so I am actually going to address that in next week's post. I came up with a good solution to fix tight hips.
I'm curious, how did the fit of the bust work out for you?

    2. The bust was fine for me. Looking forward to your hip solution. I'm a pear leaning toward hourglass.

    3. Great to hear as a number have voiced concerns about not being able to do a full bust adjustment to the pattern.
You know, most of us are pears leaning toward hourglass shapes ;) It's what has made us so attractive to artists throughout the ages!
Hey, when you finish your curtains, come help me with mine ;) I made a set of drapes for my bedroom about 8 years ago and it is time for a new set. I have this incredible vintage fabric that I think is going to really look nice. Like all things, I just have to get it done.

    4. I didn't do any bust adjustments, just made it as is. If I were closer I would be glad to help with your curtains :-)
