Sewing Indie Month, Pattern Hacking

The pattern that I chose to "hack" this week is the Paper Bag Pant pattern from Sewn Square One. Last year I participated in Me Made May and it was a great experience as I learned so much about what I really need and want in my wardrobe. One thing that I can use a lot more of, believe it or not, is casual at home clothes. I felt that the paper bag pant pattern would make a nice addition. The pattern is a very relaxed fit pant, so very comfortable for casual wear.

My pictures did not turn out very well and I was afraid that if I asked my husband to take more, he might ask for a divorce!!! We did not have a good picture taking day :( The pants look much cuter in real life than they look in the picture.   

           

Rather than sew on the patch pockets, I did a zippered pocket, a great place to carry my cell phone when I'm out on a walk.

I did not put the elastic in the bottom of the legs, rather, I left slits and attached another piece where I inserted a drawstring. Please don't look too closely at the mess my house is. I've been going through things and they are stacked waiting for a garage sale.

 

The only thing that I did not do and I wish I had, was add side seam pockets. The next pair! I would like to make the long version as well.
If I can get some better pictures, I'll be sure to post them. Like I said, the pants really are quite cute and so very comfortable to wear. A great addition to my very lacking casual wardrobe.
