The Pillowcase Pile Grows!

This is just so exciting! A few days ago, another box arrived on my doorstep. It contained 20 pillowcases all from Kitty of http://weirwoodstation.blogspot.com/. You may remember that Kitty did a wonderful guest post for Fabulous Free Pattern Friday the first of March on the bag pictured below.
A few days before Kitty's box arrived, I received 7 adorable pillowcases from CJ. Cj's pillowcases included 4 Sesame Street cases that I'm sure children will love.
Here are the cases that Kitty made. As I was hanging these up, the thought came to me that I should get my husband to rig up something so I can hang more and more cases. Shhh, he doesn't know about this yet!!! Thankfully he loves me and puts up with all my crazy ideas. But I think it will be quite a picture to have cases hanging all over my garden!

A couple from Kitty that I thought were especially cute.
To date, I have 53 pillowcases in my hands. That makes only 847 more to go!!! I am an optimistic soul:) My goal is to do 200 myself, so I need your help to reach the 900 mark. If by chance you would like to make even just one, email me once you have yours finished and I will get my address to you. What I am planning to do is fly out to Seattle the first part of August to deliver the cases, so there is plenty of time to get however many you would like to do finished. When I deliver the cases, I will also be including the names of all who participated in this project.
Here is a link to the pattern   http://siterepository.s3.amazonaws.com/00569201012271239106026.pdf
A few have asked if they need to include the accent piece. The answer is no. I adds a nice touch, but it is by no means necessary. The accent piece does not add to the length of the pillowcase. So if you do leave off the trim, cut the main portion of the case and the trim piece exactly the same measurements as the pattern specifies and leave off the accent piece.
Thank you Kitty and CJ for your time as well as your generosity. Thank you for making a dent in this little dream of mine!!!
One last thing, I've been searching my mind trying to think of a cute graphic that will depict the increase in pillowcases. So far I am a blank. If anyone has an idea, I would love your help.

  1. I am sure you will reach your goal - however even if you don't every one that you already have is going to be loved by the children.

Thank you so much from a parent who has a child who received a pillow case from Mary Bridge. These really do brighten the day for sick children and its a huge change from the normal drab colors of a hospital room.I hope you succeed at your goal.

  4. Hi Rhonda, I am about to start sewing the pillowcases soon but I have a question, please:

    These are the measures:

For ONE regular size pillowcase you need:
    1 - 25"x 40" piece of fabric ("main")
    1 - 1O"x 40" piece ,of fabric ("trim")
    1 - 2" X 40" piece of fabric ("accent")
Note: All seam allowances are 1/4" .

Hope this is not a silly question: I am from Europe and here we add the seam allowances to the given measures. How abour this project? Are the 1/4" seam allowances included in the different main, trim and accent pieces or do we add them?

    Thanks!
