The Tree Of Life Bag

Since I have not checked in this week with my bag, I thought I would give you a quick update on my progress. Sadly, I have not moved along as fast as I should have since I spent two nights last week doing nothing but lying on the sofa and watching a movie. For shame, for shame. I always feel a bit guilty when I sit without something in my hands. But then again, a rest can restore the soul!

Two weeks ago the side panels were completed.
I now have one side of my bag completed. The other side will be finished by next week.
I'm really quite happy with it so far.
I did choose the lining fabric. Once again, determined to use what I have, I discovered this cotton fabric in my fabric closet. I don't think it could be any more perfect. I love how the cable pattern is picked up in the fabric. Not that anyone really sees the inside of your bag, but I think it's nice to look inside a bag and see something lovely.

I'll get to the fabric store this week so I can tell you the exact name of the stabilizer that I like to use.
It's difficult to see in the above picture, but it is fusible.
Here you can see the thickness. It gives a project like this stability and yet does not make the project too stiff.
In case you are just coming in on this project, you can find the instructions and all the posts related to this project here.
If by chance you are working along on the bag, I hope it is going well!

  1. Timing is everything. I had one, what do I call it, round of the knitting done on one side panel when I discovered that I had made a mistake early on, so I ripped it out to the base and started over. It was late at night and I was tired, so I stopped at Row 4. Luckily I didn't get back to it until now, and I see that you corrected Row 5. At least I had not gotten beyond Row 5 and had to rip it out again!

    1. I am so happy to hear this. When I realized what I had done, I almost couldn't get back to the computer fast enough to correct my mistake. I was so worried that you had done one entire side and that it would need to be ripped out. Can't wait to see your bag. Send pictures!!

  2. I will send pictures, but with the other projects I am working on, I most likely won't get this bag finished until after Thanksgiving. Never enough time to sew, knit, cook, etc.
