Fabulous Free Pattern Friday

It seems like last Friday was yesterday. Wow did this week go by quickly. The holidays will do that to you!!
The All Points Skirt
This week's pattern is a very simple skirt. The skirt consists of 3 rectangles. You will need 2 measurements, your waist measurement and the length of skirt that you would like.
The skirt lays very flat across the stomach area and then flares out with points all along the hem. In the above picture, the length measurement I used for my skirt ends at the top of my boot, not at the edge of the point.

As I said, you will need your waist measurement or your upper hip measurement if you would like your skirt to sit more on your hips than at your waist. Divide your waist measurement by 3. So if your waist measurement is 26 add an inch for ease and then divide by 3 which will equal 9. I made my skirt out of a knit. If you would like to make your skirt out of a woven fabric, use your hip measurement because you will want to be able to pull your skirt over your hips or you will have to insert a zipper. (Knits make life so simple!) The next measurement you will need is the length of your skirt. I used 22". In the drawing above, the measurements on either side then would be 22", the center area would be your waist measurement divided by 3, in our example, 9". For the width of your rectangle, use the same measurement you used for your length. You will want to cut 3 rectangles.
In the above picture you can see one rectangle that is spread out and the other two are scrunched a little. To sew the skirt, match the length area on either side of your divided waist measurement and sew a seam. Do the same with the other 2 rectangles. Once the 3 rectangles are sewn together, cut a casing for your waistband. Make sure to cut the casing twice the size of your elastic plus seam allowance. The length of your casing will be the same as your waist opening. Insert the elastic, close up the casing and you are ready to go. I used a knit that does not ravel so I did not finish any edges. (Again, knits make life so simple!!)

This is a go to skirt when I want to look nice but I don't feel like making a huge effort. Do you ever have those days? The skirt is a little swishy so it has a nice feminine appeal.
Good luck and as always, email me if you have any questions. I'll do my best to help.
Happy Friday Everyone!! And a warm welcome to the new followers. It's great to have you.

  1. Very cute! I have made a similar skirt, where the waist is a straight line and it pushes the fullness to the sides - making it easier to walk.

Yours is more full and SO cute. I'll have to try it! And, yes, I love to look nice with minimal effort. Is there any other way? :)

  7. Beautiful pattern!! Thanks for sharing! How do you attach the waistband? Will sewing the waistband make the skirt be gathered?
