The Wednesday Showcase

It's still Wednesday in America and I am in desperate need of doing something nice, something uplifting. So although it's late in the day, I am determined to get out this week's Wednesday Showcase post. The  2014 year end round up will hopefully take place next week.
This week, I have 2 lovely and very charitable ladies to introduce you to.
First up is Alecia of http://www.sewtoneverland.blogspot.com/ She says,
"I'm a 21 year old psychology student living in Western Australia. Lover of sewing, craft, baking and above all, vintage everything. I hope you enjoy my little space on the interwebs. My Blog name comes for my unending love for J. M. Barrie's 'Peter Pan'.
She left out the part of how very sweet her heart is. As I scrolled through her blog, I found a post that really touched my heart.
There have been fires in Adelaide, Australia and they are in desperate need of mittens for the burned paws of the Koalas. You can find the post HERE along with a pattern and an address where you can send your finished mittens.
*Since this was posted, Gail, who lives in Australia informed me that they are actually overflowing with mittens for the Koalas. There are a lot of generous hearts out there. If you would like to do something to help, check out the comment section for a possible alternative.
Alecia is still rather new to sewing and making new pieces for the very first time, like this lovely circle skirt.
In her very first blog post ever, she showcased this ever so sweet gathered waist skirt. She said that once she started going to the university, she realized that she needed some practical pieces that were also lovely. I think she hit the mark with this one!
This dress is a little political in nature as she made it in response to the sharks that have been killed. What a beautiful protest piece.
Alecia is young, cute, full of energy and simply delightful. Please check out her blog and help me welcome her to the world wide sewing community.

Next up is as I said earlier, another very charitable lady, Mary Ellen of http://onemoredayabovetheroses.blogspot.com/ . She says.
"I am a lifelong sewer- a wife, mom, first time grandma , MEME , Mary' s daughter , Kim's friend, Love sewing garments, baby clothes & I love my Berninas."
As I scrolled through her blog, the first thing that caught my eye was this picture.
It's a stack of 75 onsies and 50 undershirts that she donated to a local hospital. Incredible!
She also makes lovely pieces for her grandchildren.
And fun pieces for herself as well, like this blouse. It's the Sassy Librarian Top which is offered as a Craftsy class.
And this top, the Scout Woven/Knit Tee from Grainline Patterns.
To be honest, with all the sewing that she does for others and charities, I don't know how she finds any time for herself! Again, please check out her blog as I think you will find Mary Ellen to be absolutely delightful.

So there you have it, 2 more lovely and talented ladies who are doing their part to enrich the sewing world. Thanks so much Alecia and Mary Ellen!!!

  1. Please no more mittens for koalas. There have been radio reports in Australia letting people know that they have been inundated with kindness. But it is a beautiful story.

    1. Thanks for letting us know Gail. There's no way that I would have known that here. On the other hand, I'm happy that the response has been so wonderful. Not all charities are so lucky.

  3. That's so incredibly strange, I just read this article on Huff Post's Good News post -- http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/13/koala-mittens_n_6458990.html. As Gail mentioned, they no longer need mittens -- but kangaroos and other marsupials need pouches, although I'm betting not for long as the sewing community is extremely generous. Thanks as always for the posts about new bloggers.
