Who Says It Has To Be Itsy Bitsy?

For those of you who follow my Fabulous Free Pattern Friday series, I'm sure you've noticed that I have not posted a new piece for the last couple of weeks. Don't worry(not that you would!!), I have a piece all set to go, in fact I wore it yesterday, so I will be back next Friday with a new FFPF post.
As for today, I am also taking a week off from the sleeve post. I have been dealing with some health issues. This past week, I've seen 3 doctors. Don't worry(again, not that you would!!!), I'm not dying, so nothing major, but I do need to just take care of myself and be a little quiet for a few days.
So on to something a little more interesting.
I'm sure that many of you have seen the flutter over this new swimsuit pattern.

Very Retro and very covered up compared to what we usually see at the beach or pool. If you are interested, here is a link to the pattern,  http://www.etsy.com/listing/153333289/bombshell-swimsuit-pdf-pattern-vintage?ref=shop_home_active&nc=1 It's a great buy at only $10.00.
As I read Heather Lous's blog I found her comment about the pattern rather interesting,
"Last night I posted the Bombshell Swimsuit on Etsy and the avalanche of orders and goodwill and blogger love this morning made me fill up with joy."
So, in other words, the pattern went viral. I am so very happy for her!
This morning, this video was in my inbox and I found it especially interesting in light of the excitement that has transpired over the Bombshell Swimsuit pattern.

The Godly Truth About Bikini's - FINALLY Someone Gets It! from sharethemessage on GodTube.

By no means am I trying to make a political statement, or say that wearing a bikini is wrong. I've worn them and even have a couple in my drawer that from time to time still see the light of day. Don't be alarmed, they are not itsy bitsy, really very modest compared to most. I'm well aware of the saying, "Just because you can doesn't mean you should!!!"
As I watched the video, I thought about my swimsuits and what I feel the most comfortable in. Both are vintage suits.

Both are very modest. They are great for pool parties or for going from the beach to a casual restaurant with a simple cover up tied around the waist. When I wear these swimsuits, I feel pretty, and there is no sense of feeling self conscious.
How do you feel? Have we lost our natural sense of modesty? Do we need to bring it back?

  1. Rhonda, rest, take it easy, and feel better soon! I love your vintage suits. Honestly I like 2 pieces for ease of using the BR! I am thankful for cup sized bathing suits that are available these days. I made a tank in swim fabric to wear over the bra-top for modesty. So I guess that's a 3 piece!

    1. You are so cute!! And you always make me smile :) you bring up another issue with suits, proper support. With all the bras you've been making, I bet you could do a great suit with proper support.

    1. Aren't they just the best? I love the fact that the top portion looks so much like ready to wear.

  3. I watched the video a few days ago when someone posted it to Facebook. I intend to use some of her points the next time we discuss the topic in my teen girls' classes at church. So glad the concept of reasonable modesty is finding its way into fashion circles...

  4. in answer to your last question I don't have the right figure to wear a bikini, however I do have one in my draw which doesn't see the light of day, and if it does, its in private.

Glad you are sorting out your health issues - hope you at back to good health soon

  6. Hope you are back to even better than you were very soon! Bathing suits. Ugh. It is even worse when you get old, yet still love to swim. I have discovered that the suits with skirts are better for me (!) if I shorten them a couple of inches. The are still covered up, but less frumpy. What do people do who can't sew?

  7. Oh, Rhonda! These swimsuits are soooo beautiful! I think like you ... bring back modesty is so desagradabe be on the beach and watch the girls with those bikinis so tiny that we call them "dental floss" hehe.
Take care and get healthy, dear Rhonda.

  10. Rhonda, I hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself. We will still be here. That black vintage suit is so cool! What does the back look like? I love the lines. I hate feeling self conscious, and I am very modest, so I just quit going to the pool when I couldn't find a reasonable suit.

    1. Thanks Becki.
The back on both suits is basically just straight across. Super comfortable to wear.
It breaks my heart to hear that you have given up on going to the pool. I think you would look lovely in the bombshell suit. I would do the view with the cups. If you do give it a try, be sure to use a Lycra that has some substance. So many of the swimsuit fabrics can be rather flimsy.

  11. I have just come back from a beach holiday and It seams no matter what your age or shape the bikini is the most popular. You won't see me in one. A one piece is more flattering for sure. Hope you feel better soon. Not much fun being sick.

    1. I have noticed that we always look better when we wear tasteful clothes whether we are on the beach or not!!
Thankfully, I am not sick. I have been having some problems and if I deal with them now and do what I need to do, it will not turn into something more.

    1. Hi Jenny,
I'm not sick just dealing with some health issues. If I deal with them now, hopefully I won't have anything that could be more serious in the future.
