Remembering a True Couturier

When I opened my email this morning, I found this note attached to this blog post, http://rhondabuss.blogspot.com/2012/05/fashion-show-recap-three.html
"This is a beautiful dress! I am glad that you posted this and gave Avadner her kudos. She was such a talented lady. I am her cousin and I regret to inform you that we buried her today. Rest her soul. Thanks again for posting this."
My heart is full as I write this post. Her name was Marion Avadner McGlory, a true couturier. In remembrance of her and her incredible work, I thought that I would repost the pictures of this magnificent dress that she created 75 years ago.
I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to open last year's Haute Couture fashion show with Avadner's dress.
Avadner created this dress as her final garment prior to graduating from The Art Institute of Chicago.
The work is spectacular. The skirt is layers of chiffon that have hand rolled hems.
The bodice is a series of tiny tucks,
each hand stitched in place. How fortunate I am to own this incredible work of art.
Avadner created, sewed and taught for many years. May she continue to be an inspiration to us all.

  4. Beautifully made and the dress looks fabulous on you.

Sending my condolences to you & her family.

Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.

  9. Rhonda I remember seeing this dress last year when I saw the highlights from the show. It's stunning. Avadner was an amazing designer and did beautiful work. I am sorry to hear of her passing but her works live on and hopefully there is still something we may learn from them even though she cannot be with us.
