Fabulous Free Pattern Friday

All Tied Up Vest
You may remember this lovely scarf that was a gift from Joan of http://jonadelefashions.blogspot.com/. I love the scarf but I felt that it was far too pretty to wrap around my neck. So what to do?
Make a vest!
So very easy to do. Since this is a very lightweight scarf I decided to add thread ties to the sides. I also could have added silk loops to the sides. Put the scarf around your neck and make sure that it is even at the bottom. Place a pin on the scarf below the armpit. Don't place the first loop too high as the scarf will be too tight as it goes under the arm. Place a pin at your waistline for the third loop and then position the second loop in the middle between the top loop and the waistline loop.  Be sure to use a double thread to make your thread loops and secure them well.
You can see the 3 thread loops along the side in the picture below.

For the ties, you can use a ribbon. I used a piece of silk that I had and made a tie. To determine the amount you will need for your tie, measure across your back and then multiply that number by 7 and then add enough for you to be able to tie the ribbon.  If you look at the tie in the picture below, you will see that the tie goes across the back 7 times.

A view from the side.
In order to keep the front closed, you will need to add small buttons, the small shell buttons look very nice. Make small thread loops to close the front. I did not add enough buttons to the front of my "vest." I will be adding 2 more buttons so that the front will not pull open below the waist.
Although thread loops and buttons were added, the scarf can still be worn around the neck so this makes it very versatile. I wore this today and I had to make a stop at the grocery store. A man came up to me and told me that he loved my vest and thought it was very interesting. Nice! Made my day.
I hope that you've had a wonderful day as well.
