Paco's Jacket

A few months ago, I ordered the pattern pictured above from Paco Peralta. It's a lovely pattern. You can find it here.
I found the white knit fabric which has a nubby, crepe like look to it. The problem with white fabric is that everything shows through it,
so I decided to underline it. I used a very light weight cotton knit.
Under lining is a step that I highly believe in taking the time to do. Yes, it does take a little longer, but the finished results are beyond compare. At least I think so. The cotton gave the fabric a beautiful feel, but because it is a knit, the exterior fabric was not compromised.
The finished jacket.
I had this lovely vintage glass button that worked perfectly.
Now here's another reason why I decided to underline the jacket, I really wanted to use this lining and I didn't want it to show through to the other side.
I started on the jacket at 10:30 in the morning, cut it out, cut out the underlining, basted the underlining to the fashion fabric, sewed it all together and had it all finished by 5 that afternoon. Paco does not include instructions with his patterns, but it wasn't a problem to figure out how the jacket goes together. I highly recommend this pattern. The jacket is simple and yet elegant, and easy to put together. I will definitely make it again.
You probably remember the peg skirt that I did a few weeks ago along with the halter top.
I had thought that I would wear this jacket with the skirt, but I'm not so sure now. I really love the jacket, but I feel that in order to wear it with this skirt, I would have to shorten the jacket quite a bit. I have enough fabric to make pants out of the white knit, so I don't think that I want to shorten the jacket. I think I'll just make a different jacket to go with the skirt and leave this one alone. What I think I would really like to make is a little short swing jacket, so now the hunt will be on for fabric once again. Oh what a pity.....another trip to the fabric store!!!

  1. Rhonda, thanks for choosing my pattern. Really it looks fantastic. I love the use of white. I have also thought about doing white for summer. Maybe in a linen fabric. Thanks again, as we say here: "This has been in good hands"...
