Help Me Decide!

Once again, I would like to thank all of you for your kind wishes for my dog Gracie. We are a week out of the second surgery, and oh my, what a difference! She has started wanting to scratch her ear, so I think that's a good sign, a sign of healing. She was so funny last night, she was lying on the sofa beside me, and wanted so badly to scratch her ear. Her back paw would go up, but stop short, as if she was saying, "oh, but I really want to scratch." She has actually been quite good about keeping her foot out of her ear. The vet said that the stitches need to stay in for 14 days, so I think that if she has had this much improvement in a week, the next week should be all the better. And I will have a huge sigh of relief :)

Oh, and my toe is healing, not that it's such a big deal. I walked a little too much yesterday and paid the price last night. In time, this too shall pass :)

A few weeks ago I shared this coat that I have had forever. It's a faux fur coat that I really love. The fur is quite nice. While I won't wear it any longer as is, the fur can be saved, so I've decided to remake it. The coat is now apart, and I need to decide what to do with it.

I have this trim which a friend gave me and I have been aching to use it. It may be a little difficult to see, but it has a lovely gold metallic thread that runs through it, and ruby beads in the center of the flowers. I have quite a bit, so there are lots of possibilities.

I found this picture, and fell in love. I want a longer coat, so I thought I could do something to create a full skirt. I should actually have enough of the faux fur to create a great skirt.

 Maybe something like this.

I really like this coat as well. I thought that I could use the fur and trim around the bottom of the coat and maybe mix it with a wool coating.

And then, OH MY GOODNESS, I love this coat!!! If I did this, I would forget the trim all together and mix the fur with a cotton velvet.

All are quite dressy, so it's not a choice between something casual and something dressy. I would love your thoughts.
Whatever I decide to do, it should be really pretty.
Thanks for your thoughts!
Rhonda

  1. I really love the black one with the fur trim. Can't wait to see what you do!

  2. I am so happy to hear that Gracie is improving. It is so hard for them not to scratch. Bless her heart for trying. Okay, you asked for opinions, i have been 100% sold on that coat that reminds me of Dr. Zhivago since you first showed it - the one second from the bottom in your current post's photos. I love the frog closure and the print insert. It is a coat you would not see coming and going. That said, i also love the soft gray short jacket with the tonal embroidery insets (not much on contrast).

  3. Fur with cotton velvet for the last one is my choice. Good luck!

  4. If I may be so bold, I don't like that trim with the fur. My favorites are the two with the fur skirts, especially the shorter brown one. You could make the skirt longer. As your fur isn't as bold or thick so the skirt could be longer and not overwhelm the top fabric. But since it is for you and based on your comments the last coat seems to be your favorite. Whatever you decide it will be a winner. Your makes are stunning. Jean

  5. Well Rhonda, only you could pull this off. I love all of the above but really love the last one. What a great way of saving this coat and bringing new life to the fabric. Can't wait to see what you make.

  6. I'm so glad to hear that you and Gracie are on the mend! Hooray!
As for the coat choices: I vote for the last two. I love the velvet insets in the last coat but if the velvet makes it too dressy to wear often, I'm less enthusiastic.I want to wear my new clothes all the time. The Russian influenced coat with it's tall collar and large passimenterie/ knots is very fun too, and may be easier to wear. Perhaps the trim from your friend works with this coat too? Good luck choosing!

I like All except the jacket, and I’ll look forward to reading about you selection. The trim is beautiful and could embellish many different beautiful garments.

  11. Great to hear that Gracie is on the mend, and you too.
I'm in such an indecisive frame of mind I can't make a suggestion to help narrow down your choices. Sorry!

  12. Rhonda, it is really a hard decision. I'm with you with number one, loooove the design. But number 3 also close to me, and probably you have some great floral tapestry what matches both with the fur and the trim. I'm looking forward to see which one you choose and how (fabulously) you'll make it. :)

  13. I love the first one. But any you do will be stunning.

  14. Rhonda, personally I'd prefer a less contrasting trim - something more in keeping with the tones and colours of the fur.
Glad to hear that Gracie is going well - with your care how could she not?

  15. I agree with the post suggesting the Dr. Z. coat idea. That one is just stunning!! Oh boy! And if anyone could do a stunner, you could. Can't wait to see the pictures of what you create. Also, so glad Gracie is doing well. Our little Tilly, a senior citizen, has had two surgeries this year too (the gray in her fur around her eyes makes her look like a raccoon in a cairn's body; she looks like Little Bit's pictures, so it must be an older dog look). She seems to be doing well these days, thank the good Lord! She's such a treasure to us; comforts us when we're sick, makes us laugh when we're sad, talks to us when she's excited: they really are God's little servants on four paws.

  16. Good news about little Gracie! I really like the last coat it is special looking and has a wonderful style. What a great conversation piece. I also think the trim that your friend gifted to you would serve better on another garment. Blessings, JL
