And The Winner Is!!!

Last Thursday I announced that I was sponsoring a small give away. Sadly, due to the weight of the book, I could only send it to someone in the United States. Please keep coming by though, as I will have another contest soon and it will be open to everyone. Well, the winner is Karen Tillman Harder!!!! Congratulations! I will contact you and get the book to you.
Now I had planned to do another post yesterday, but alas, I was side tracked. A while back I showed you my summer knitting project. I have wanted to knit this sweater since I first saw it in 1986.

I was so excited when I showed you this picture. I really felt like I had done something.
You probably remember this picture of me being cruel to my Gracie. Thankfully, she loves me.

Then I finally made it to this point, the body is complete, but no sleeves. Now I really felt that I had done something.

So here is where I am now, one sleeve is complete and the other is about half way finished.

I am in love with this sweater. I have been going back and forth about how I am going to finish the sweater. As I was working on it last night, the thought came to me that I might like to add a horizontal cable around the bottom of the sweater. Maybe. I think I may want to line it so that I can really get a lot more wear out of it. My Texas friends think that it should be warm enough as it is. Not in Chicago!!!
At this point, there is little else on my mind. I am so anxious to get it finished and blocked. Once I have it blocked I will decide about whether or not I want the extra cable around the hem and whether or not I will line it.
The next sweater coat is for anyone who feels that they would like to try a coat or a bigger project, but are a little intimidated by all the cables. If you read my initial post about the cabled sweater, you'll remember that I told you that I had always thought that if I ever got that sweater finished, I would feel that I had really reached the pinnacle of knitting. Now, not so much. So please don't be intimidated if you like it. Give it a try and I'm sure you'll be just like me and wonder why you thought it was such a  big deal. If you do decide to give it a try, I am more than happy to give any assistance that I can. I will not knit it for you though!! A quick story. I participate in a program where we give airplane rides to underprivileged children. The goal of the program is to encourage children to want to learn to fly. I could care less whether they learn to fly, what I hope is to encourage them to reach for their dreams. One day I had a young man in the plane, probably around 12. I said, " Now if an old woman like me can learn to fly, just think what you can do." He sat there for a few moments and then looked up at me and said, "you're right!" Oh well, nothing like a kid making you feel old, but I guess I asked for it.

I did this coat a few years ago. I just love it and it's perfect for fall.
It's like wearing a big blanket.
The entire coat is nothing more than seed stitches (and for the most part, just rectangles).
Another coat that I loved the minute I saw it.

If you think you would like to make the coat, the pattern is in the Fall 2005 Vogue Knitting magazine. I have included a link to the pattern here.
This is the project I am planning to do next. I have the yarn, I just need the time!!! I think this is everyone's war cry!
Have a wonderful evening.
Rhonda

  1. I love the cabled coat you are working on. Amazing that it's so gorgeous over 20 years after it's introduction.

  2. Thanks Bev. Classic patterns always seem to be beautiful no matter how old they are.

  3. Rhonda, you are too funny. Your encouragement story crackled me up. Tee Hee. The sweaters are absolutely beautiful. I only wish I could knit like that. It does look intimidating, and I wouldn't know where to start.
