Monday Morning Inspiration/Amazing Details

What is it about a garment that catches your eye? Color, cut, workmanship, details? More than likely, all of the above. For those of us who sew, we really live in a very special world, at least I think so :-) Whether advanced or just starting out, we know what goes into making a beautiful garment, a garment that makes us go, WOW! It really all comes down to a well played out symphony of sorts. The garment can be beautifully made, but have so many details that we get lost. Or the details can be really quite unique, but not well played, they too get lost. And then there are beautiful details on the wrong fabric, and the list can go on and on. So as I said, it really comes down to just the right everything. For those of us who sew, it's always our quest to get it just right. The best way to try and get it right is to study those who do get it right, at least most of the time.
Let's begin with the House of Dior. Who would think that each tiny circle would be sewn together to create....
This dress.
A smocked sleeve that creates a coat.
Smocking does not need to be elaborate, just a simple stitch at the neckline creates interest.
And then, smocking can be over the top glamorous.
Rather than stitching, held together artfully. We had an entire Monday Morning Inspiration post dedicated to this designer. You can see it HERE.
The absolutely amazing detail art of Ester Cellucci. You can see more of her work that was featured on THIS Monday Morning Inspiration post.
Knotted buttons and loops from Ralph Rucci.
Another amazing Ralph Rucci piece. We could actually spend the day looking at details from Ralph Rucci!
Pleated detail from the Coperni RTW Spring 2015 collection.
Detail above and garment below. Subtle, yet amazing.
 Such a fabulous pocket detail.

Whimsical pinwheels. Fun for a summer skirt. This could get heavy very quickly. I think it works here due the monotone aspect of the garment.
Fabric woven to create this jacket. Beautiful!
Inspired? I am :-)
Wishing you a wonderful week.
Rhonda

  1. I shrieked in delight to recognize the couture worker in the Dior photo from the documentary: it's the guy who does the big skirts! (isn't that how he described himself?)

    1. It always seems that I start out going down one road and end up down a completely different road when it comes to finding some of these pieces. Always a fun journey :) I look at it this way, we really don't need to know how to do some of these pieces, as they will inspire us in some manner regardless. Glad you enjoyed it :)

    1. And if you didn't know the work that went into it, you would think it's just fabric.

  4. Wonderful (again). You must get completely lost down the internet rabbit hole sometimes Rhonda, but I am in awe of what you find. Thank you.

    1. I have a dog names Gracie. Her life's quest is to catch a rabbit. When she's running after one, nothing matters but the rabbit. I too tend to chase a few rabbits, Internet wise, but not as patiently ;-) Glad you enjoyed it :-)
